In the Colorado Springs city election, a group named Colorado Springs for Ethical Government (CSEG) has taken a negative turn by purchasing ads targeting mayoral candidate Wayne Williams on KOAA TV. However, the exact expenditure remains unknown due to a broken link required by the Federal Communications Commission for disclosure.
According to the disclosure statement, the ads are managed by Del Cielo Media, based in Alexandria, Virginia. The committee is purportedly located at 1 S. Nevada Ave., near the City Administration Building, with Tom Bjorklund and Frank Brock listed as chief executives. Notably, Tom Bjorklund has been associated with controversial activities, including involvement in challenging elections and ties to QAnon-related events.
Despite efforts to gather more information, little is known about Frank Brock, and attempts to contact the committee yielded no response.
Another group named Citizens for Protecting Our Water has also purchased airtime on KOAA, with an address linked to Victor’s Canvassing, a political consulting firm owned by Daniel Cole. Cole has a history of involvement in political campaigns and nonprofit organizations, including the creation of Colorado Dawn, which contributed to the Springs Opportunity Fund, a conservative group involved in the 2021 city election.
While these groups are active in the current city election, they have yet to file campaign finance reports. However, they may be required to disclose their expenditures and activities in the upcoming reports due in mid-March.
On a different note, Katherine “Kat” Gayle, a human rights attorney running for an at-large City Council seat, has outlined her platforms, emphasizing her commitment to representing all citizens of Colorado Springs and addressing various community concerns, including issues related to city codes and development.
