Who hasn’t noticed all the trash along our city streets? Mayor John Suthers sure has, so he ordered in three giant vacuum trucks to put to work on the main thoroughfares. Those include Academy Boulevard, Austin Bluffs Parkway, Garden of the Gods Road and Nevada Avenue.
“The Public Works Department has for the first time introduced to its operations and maintenance routine an outdoor vacuum system to complement its ongoing efforts to pick up litter along streets and medians,” the city said in a release. “Starting this month, three portable vacuums are now in use as part of the Keep it Clean COS initiative launched by Mayor John Suthers in 2022 to help reduce litter throughout Colorado Springs. Prior to adding these machines, picking up litter was solely human powered. The machines are expected to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.”
