Feb. 10
The Manitou Springs Police Department stopped a vehicle with expired registration in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. The officers discovered the vehicle had fictitious plates; the driver was issued a summons for a criminal traffic violation and the plates were seized as evidence.
A juvenile arguing with a parent damaged property in the 00 block of Sutherland Place.
Officers located a man sleeping on the sidewalk in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. They learned he had multiple local misdemeanor warrants and he was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Feb. 11
MSPD stopped a vehicle without illuminated taillights in the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue. The officers developed probable cause to arrest the driver for being under the influence of alcohol.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle with no license plates near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. The vehicle stopped briefly, then fled at high speed. MSPD pursued the vehicle briefly but stopped out of concern for public safety.
Citizens in Colorado Springs flagged down Manitou officers regarding an assault occurring in the 2600 block of Ore Mill Road. MSPD intervened and separated the people, detained the suspect and requested medical attention for the victim. Colorado Springs Police officers responded and took over the investigation.
Feb. 12
A vehicle with expired registration was stopped in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue and the driver was found to be under the influence of drugs.
Officers responded to an accidental shooting in the 4600 block of Martindale Avenue in Cascade. They located the victim and witnesses; no foul play was suspected in the shooting.
MSPD received a found credit card, which was placed in safekeeping.
Officers stopped a vehicle going 47 mph in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, a 30 mph zone. While in contact with the driver, they observed an open container of marijuana in the center console. The driver was cited for multiple traffic violations and released.
Feb. 13
MSPD received reports of mail fraud and stolen identity in the 300 block of Plainview Place. Officers investigated the incident and took a report.
An instance of Medicaid fraud was reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue; the suspect is believed to have been fraudulently billing for services.
Property was found in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue.
Feb. 14
A juvenile was found to be in possession of narcotics equipment in the 400 block of El Monte Place.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Feb. 15
MSPD responded to a cardiac arrest reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. The victim was clearly deceased when officers arrived. There were no obvious signs of suspicious circumstances, and the investigation was passed on to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
Feb. 16
A cold traffic accident was reported at the intersection of Manitou Avenue and Crystal Park Road. A vehicle turning east on Manitou Avenue struck a pedestrian, who was not injured. No one reported it until about one and a half hours later, when the pedestrian called after experiencing minor pain. Officers took a case report, but determined it was not criminal.
