Colorado Springs Airport today announced a new airline serving the city. Avelo Airlines — an ultra low cost carrier headquartered in Houston — will run nonstop service to Los Angeles’ Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR) from Colorado Springs Airport starting May 3.

They’ll be the only nonstop flights to Los Angeles out of Colorado Springs.

The new route will operate three times weekly — Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays — on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Introductory one-way fares between Colorado Springs and BUR start at $49.

Avelo offers “world-class service at affordable prices and their purpose aligns with ours,” Greg Phillips, Colorado Springs Airport’s director of aviation, said in a news release.

“Although we’re Colorado’s small airport, we’re big on customer service and friendliness and we are looking forward to having Avelo join our airport family,” he said. “The L.A. Basin is a large, under-served market for COS, so with Avelo providing nonstop service to Burbank, our community can easily access the West Coast.”

Colorado Springs Airport served more than a million passengers in 2022, and 2023 got off to a good start with more than 74,000 enplanements and 146,847 total passengers in January. That represented an increase in seats 4.6 percent higher than January 2022, airport officials said Feb. 22.

The airport expects Avelo’s service to LA to lift those numbers further.
