Actor, scholar and storyteller Becky Stone portrayed legendary performer, civil rights activist and World War II spy Josephine Baker in the Division 1 Courtroom at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum on Feb. 8. Stone’s performance was one of seven stops throughout the state as part of the Colorado Humanities’ Black History Live! tour. Following her performance, Stone took questions from audience members, first as Baker and then as herself. Stone has also performed as Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Maya Angelou.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has launched a new respiratory disease data dashboard that includes statewide data and resources for COVID, influenza and RSV in one place. Data will be updated on Wednesdays,  October to May. El Paso County continues to provide local data in separate COVID and flu dashboards. 

Colorado Springs Airport announced last week that Southwest Airlines will begin nonstop daily service to Long Beach, California, starting July 11. The flights, in Boeing 737 aircraft, will depart the Springs at 4:30 p.m., with return flights from Long Beach departing at 4:30 p.m.

El Paso County Public Health has been recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials for its ability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies. The department demonstrated these capabilities by meeting the comprehensive preparedness benchmarks required by Project Public Health Ready, a partnership between NACCHO and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Council of Neighbors and Organizations, the city-sponsored organization that aims to get residents more involved with their communities, is accepting applications for its free, 10-week Neighborhood University course until Feb. 24. Residents can learn more and apply at cscono.org/neighborhood-u.
